PA - Licensed Mental Health Therapist - LCSW/LPC/LMFT, Hybrid Position
***Referrals available immediately to build your caseload based on our third-party contracts!***
Job Overview:
Mental Health Specialists LLC is seeking a Licensed Mental Health Therapist to join our hybrid (in-person & telehealth) practice in the Squirrel Hill area of Pittsburgh, PA in a W-2 position role. You will start as a PT employee and have the option to stay PT or work in a FT capacity. This role is ideal for a licensed therapist passionate about specialized care and eager to build a niche clientele. We believe clients deserve access to therapists who bring unique expertise—whether in trauma, couples, neurodivergence, or other specialty areas.
We aim to create a network and community of people through our work as therapists, where individuals are embodied and fully living in the world, able to participate fully in life, regardless of their feelings or circumstances. We see that the wound in society we are trying to heal is that people are disembodied and dissociative, rather than living life from a place of presence and compassion. We want to enable and support people within their communities to be more embodied and fully living in the world in a way that alleviates suffering.
Our mission is to create a supportive community where clinicians thrive professionally while clients receive high-quality, specialized mental health care. We encourage our therapists’ creativity, accountability, and collaboration as we grow together.
We are looking for a therapist who is mature and can have accountability in their work, able to hear constructive feedback while also providing feedback in a way that we can co-create and partner together in this vision. Ideally, this provides you with the freedom to express the creativity within your own expertise and interests.
About Mental Health Specialists LLC:
As a hybrid group psychotherapy practice, our vision is to simplify the process of locating specialized mental health treatment among the sea of therapists and to match trained therapists with the right client. We also aim to enhance accessibility to specialized therapy in regions where access is limited or nonexistent, and by doing so, we hope to empower everyone with skills, knowledge, and resources that support mental health.

Licensed Mental Health Therapist - Hybrid 1099 Contractor Position
Job Overview:
Mental Health Specialists LLC is seeking a Licensed Mental Health Therapist (LCSW, LPC, LMFT) to join our practice as a 1099 Contractor in a hybrid (in-person & telehealth) capacity. This is a temporary 6-month contract position starting as soon as possible and ending December 31, 2026. This role is specifically designed to manage the overflow of client referrals from a specific third-party contract while the practice searches for a full-time W-2 therapist. There is also high demand for therapists trained in specialized therapies (e.g. CBT, EMDR, CIR/CISM response, couples therapy, DBT, ACT, etc). Evaluation at the end of the contract’s term will determine if there continues to be a high demand for your services and to continue for a 2nd term or discontinue.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Work as a hybrid 1099 contractor for a fixed 6-month term through December 31, 2026.
Maintain an active caseload of scheduled clients with our third-party payer (number of clients and weekly sessions is determined by you), including some in-person sessions to meet the high demand from our third-party payer (provided at your own office or at our Squirrel Hill office). Office locations will need prior approval and based on demand for therapy in your area.
Ability to work independently and efficiently with EHR’s, including self-training through our third-party contract’s EHR’s online tutorials
Provide invoices monthly for billable sessions with reimbursement within 14 days of received invoice
Maintain a psychotherapy practice independent from Mental Health Specialists LLC and ability to provide proof of your solo practice (e.g. business website, email, business card, marketing, etc)
Independently manage your own schedule and number of telehealth and in-person hours provided
Maintain best practices for timely and accurate documentation (intakes, progress notes, treatment plans, discharge summaries) within 72 hours.
Provided high-demand specialized therapy (e.g. EMDR, CBT, DBT, ACT, etc) based on your area of interest
Complete basic onboarding with our third-party payer, including self-guided use of their EHR within 30 days of your contract and having your schedule live for scheduling within 45 days.
Qualifications and Skills:
Master’s or Doctoral degree in Counseling, Social Work, or Marriage & Family Therapy
Active, unrestricted license in PA (LCSW, LICSW, LPC, LMFT)
Ability to commute easily to Pittsburgh, PA
Minimum 5 years post-LCSW/LPC experience
Evidence of independent psychotherapy practice (website, business email, business card, etc) per 1099 contractor requirements: maintaining your own malpractice insurance, completing your own licensure requirements, and openly marketing your solo practice outside of your work with us
CIR or CISM training is a bonus (our third-party contractor does have CIR event requests)
Specialized training or certification in at least one modality (e.g., EMDR, CIR/CISM, DBT, CBT, EFT, ACT, IFS, etc)
Proficiency with EHR and telehealth platforms - ability to easily and independently navigate self-led online tutorials
Organized and self-motivated
Ability to independently manage client care, develop treatment plans, and execute therapeutic modalities consistent with professional standards.
Background clearances required (FBI, PA Child Abuse and criminal checks)
Willingness to work as an independent contractor in a short-term capacity, with contract and demand for your services to be re-evaluated in 6 months
Compensation & Benefits:
As a 1099 contractor, you will enjoy a high percentage split and flexibility in managing your caseload during this high-volume referral period. Our third-party contract is looking for specialized providers and the demand is higher than what our current staff can accommodate. Contractors are responsible for their own taxes and insurance, but benefit from specialized referral streams and administrative ease.
1099 Contractor position with 70% commission for revenue received for billable sessions for clinicians with 5+ years of post-LCSW/LPC experience.
Compensation provided for client no-shows and late cancellations.

Wanting to work independently
Looking to just focus on your work with clients
